In the heart of Sri Lanka, K. Sugithan and Christina Sugirthan and envisioned a future where innovation and sustainability intertwine to create positive change. Fueled by a desire to combat plastic pollution, Christina and K. Sugithan embarked on a mission to revolutionize the traditional pen industry.

‘Creator Eco Pens’ s story began during the COVID-19 pandemic when Christina was just 17 years old. Stuck at home due to the closure of schools amid the pandemic, Christina found herself glued to her TV screen, watching news updates broadcasted by the Environmental Ministry of Sri Lanka. It was during one of these televised sessions that she stumbled upon a staggering revelation—the alarming amount of plastic waste generated by disposable pens and its detrimental impact on the environment. Shocked by this realization, Christina felt a deep sense of urgency to take action. Determined to make a difference, she delved into extensive research, exploring the environmental consequences of discarded pens. The statistics were sobering: In Sri Lanka, school children contribute approximately 80 kg of empty pen tubes to the environment daily. Each pen tube weighs about 250 mg, while the total weight of a pen, including its tube, is approximately 6.5 g. This leads to a staggering annual accumulation of waste pens totaling 759,000 kg. Considering the longevity of plastic pens, which can take 50 to 75 years to decompose, the environmental impact is profound. Her curiosity and passion for environmental conservation led her to uncover the gravity of the issue: pens contributing to pollution in landfills and oceans, posing a threat to ecosystems and marine life.
